ROMETTI COSTALES

Julia Rometti
Born in 1975 in Nice, France

Victor Costales
Born in 1974 in Minsk, Belarus

Julia Rometti and Victor Costales live in Mexico City, where they settled a few years ago after wandering throughout many different countries. This erratic period has defined a way of making that formally is characterized by practices such as collage, the ready-made, or the found object, while they discursively explores fiction, altered documents, or non-Western onthologies. Both aspects determine the choice of materials they work with, whose essence inevitably refers us to our relationship with nature and whose resulting forms are the consequence of a process of investigation and production in which they increasingly step back to leave space for other conspiratorial agents. Gliding lightly from one project to another, Rometti Costales allow themselves to be carried away by the dialogue they establish with the materials, ideas and forces they collaborate with in their travels, allowing the works themselves to indicate which path to take, unfolding a cosmology that discovers in nature a space of political inscription.

They have exhibited individually in SAPS Sala Siquieros in Mexico City; Centre d’art contemporain la Synagogue de Delme, France; Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland; Casa del Lago, Mexico City; Midway Contemporary Art, Minneapolis; and L’Appartement 22, Rabat, Morocco. Their work has been included in group shows in the Museo Tamayo, Mexico City; MAMM, Medellín; Tabakalera, San Sebastián; SITElines, Santa Fe; 12 Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador; and CRAC Alsace, France.
