Paysage II
canvas produced by a fuller
2016, Le Puy-en-Velay
raw cotton canvas
140 x 575 cm
In a tannery in the centre of France, Clément Borderie installs canvas on three wooden drums, large cylinders inside which the leathers are put for tanning. The machines will run, dressed with the canvas, for six months, under the effect of centrifugal force, the juice from the tannery passes through the wooden slats and is deposited on the canvas. The drum becomes a matrix. The canvas must envelop the drum, hence its dimensions: about 140 x 575 cm. The artist obtained three landscapes, including this one.
