JEAN CLARACQ

Born in 1991 in France
Lives and works in Paris, France

Jean Claracq is an artist living and working in Paris. The dominant feature of his painting is the quotation, which is articulated around a dialogue between painting, photography and art history. He obtained his DNSAP from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2017. His work has been presented at the Brownstone Foundation (2014), the Griffin Gallery (2015), the Espace Chabrillan art centre (2017), the Grande Halle de La Villette (2018) and the Magasins Généraux (2018), among others.

Jean Claracq’s work is built first and foremost through a work of quotation. His reference “collages” find a homogeneous space in the work of painting. Thus the painted image acquires a polysemy inspired by the medieval model of image construction. The photos of the “New Topographics”, the paintings of Herri Met de Bles or the new technologies, can thus enter into dialogue in images in the anecdotal or more literary and metaphorical sense.
