MASHA SILCHENKO

Born in 1993 in Odessa, Ukraine

Masha Silchenko studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg and graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2021. She previously attended the Odessa Art College (Ukraine) and Geidai (Tokyo University of the Arts), where she learned traditional ceramic techniques. Her work intersects and juxtaposes drawing, sculpture, and painting on canvas. Myths, beliefs, dreams, and nightmares are tamed through a sensitive, narrative interpretation. References to life, nature, and the plant world interact and transform through mark-making directly onto the material.

Masha Silchenko has held residencies at the Cité internationale des Arts in Paris, as well as at Toxi in Zurich, the Takifuji Foundation in Japan, Komplot in Brussels, and ASA Studios and Acherhaus in Hamburg. She has exhibited at venues including Galerie Chloé Salgado (“Au passage”), Jousse Entreprise, DOC, Bétonsalon, CAC Brétigny, Exo-Exo, the Palais des Beaux-Arts, and the Château de Vincennes in Paris; Martins Montero in Brussels; Rodeo in London; Kunstverein Hamburger Bahnhof and Frappant in Hamburg; Casa Filipka in Mexico City; and ImportExport in Warsaw; as well as at art fairs such as Artorama in Marseille and Artissima in Turin.
