Claude et François-Xavier Lalanne

In 1949, François-Xavier Lalanne studied drawing, sculpture and painting in Paris. His first solo painting exhibition took place at Galerie Cimaise in 1952. He began sculpting in 1956 with Claude, whom he married in 1967. François-Xavier Lalanne is best known for his sculptures of animals, both domestic (sheep) and wild (rhinoceros), which he presents in a utilitarian conception of sculpture (rhino-secretary; can of sardines-sofa…). Animals are also the central subject of his work. Until the end of his life, François-Xavier Lalanne lived and worked in Ury (Seine-et-Marne).
