Eyes Closed

“When I was six or seven years old, I was convinced there were two lives, one with eyes open and the other with eyes closed.” Federico Fellini.

This group show brings together seven (TBC) artists and invites the visitor on an extensive journey through dreams and nightmares made palpable by their interpretations of oneirism. Eyes Closed is a personal cosmography of artists with very diverse emotional, sentimental, cultural and affective voyages, all intermingling and echoing one another.

But oneirism can take on a dimension of mental confusion, hallucinations, and we can go so far as to speak of delirium. A source of emotional confusion, the delusional and hallucinatory experience resembles a dream-like state, which can then take on a painful or terrifying character, turning into a nightmare.

Don’t we remember our dreams less as we grow older than when we were children? And yet today, when we dream and keep the memory of it, dreams continue to destabilize and surprise us: is it because we interpret dreams with the fragility of our personal history or banish them for what they might reveal?

Is refusing to grow up a state of eternal dreaming?
