SIMON MARTIN | La peinture figurative contemporaine dans la collection agnès b.

Hors les murs 24 May 2024 - 27 October 2024

Address : La Fab. Place Jean-Michel Basquiat, 75013 Paris

The new exhibition in the agnès b. collection at La Fab. transcends contemporary figurative painting. After a season dedicated to photography, Agnès presents this medium, which she loves just as much, to pay tribute to the multiplicity of artistic and plastic practices that it has never ceased to unfold. Her eye and her sense of style were shaped by her childhood in Versailles, its gardens and its paintings. She grew up in this world, taking up to 9 hours of drawing classes at the Beaux Arts de Versailles, as well as a few evening classes at the Ecole du Louvre.

These origins and classical artistic practices did not lock Agnès into an institutional straitjacket. She proved this as early as the Galerie du Jour’s first exhibitions in the 1980s, when her second show featured figurative works by the Frères Ripoulin collective (Bla+Bla+Bla, PiroKao, Nina Childress, Closky, Ox, Manuh, Trois carrés…). These are painters who have themselves emancipated themselves from the frame, discovered in the street, on the walls, as she has always liked to do.
