Since the fall of 2021, the Musée des impressionnismes Giverny has been offering a program of contemporary art exhibitions as a counterpoint to its historical projects. Ange Leccia discovered Claude Monet’s world more in depth at the invitation of Cécile Debray, then director of the Musée de l’Orangerie and was deeply influenced by it. He then imagined “(D’)Après Monet” presented in 2022. A sensitive evocation of the artist’s garden in Giverny, this video installation plunges the viewer into a dreamy summer atmosphere where the water lilies open up and are revealed according to the camera’s angle of view, in correspondence with several screens that project the water’s reflections. Ange Leccia thus manages to render a sensation of movement and lightness that is as natural and intimate as a portrait of a friend.
