Born in 1952 in Minerviu, Ange Leccia first encountered art in his youth, through the cinema and the art department at Bastia high school. Since the 1970s, he has produced a vibrant body of work in which industrial objects and moving images share the same incandescence. Cinema is often brought back to basics, namely the technical condition of its existence – light. Light is as much the heroine of his videos as of his arrangements. It is the mute vector of her skin-deep sensibility, which passionately observes her surroundings. She is the receptacle for the sensations the public experiences when confronted with these resolutely contemporary creations, which again and again capture the pulse of the world in a form of purity.

For its first monographic exhibition at FRAC Corsica, Je veux ce que je veux takes the retrospective route in order to trace a number of crossroads. The exhibition combines a single historical work with recent productions and a new montage to create a mnemonic framework in which memory is not an inert object. On the contrary, it is a ductile material that quivered with each evocation, insofar as the images formed the material context of its appearance. Reminiscence is an act in progress, a process without completion. Je veux ce que je veux thus flushes out the nostalgia we too often attribute to remembering, to emphasize that the past is above all a potentiality – that of feeling the feverish exaltation of existence in its entirety.
