GAËL LÉVÊQUE
Born in Marignane in 1994
Lives and works in Aix-en-Provence
After a professional degree in music at the IMFP, Gaël Lévêque studied at the École supérieure d’art d’Aix- en-Provence in 2017.
Gaël Lévêque is interested in the conditions of appearance of suspended moments. Often contextual, his works (performances, writings, photographs, sounds or videos) summon the inner workings of an event to make them appear. By these operations of reversal, he reveals the backstage of occupied spaces and testifies of the interferences between different individuals. In this sense, the situations he generates question the relative positions of each of the elements, in order to overcome them. If we say of a décor or a soundtrack that they color the action, his pieces function in the same way, as zones of porosity. They invite the spectators to take part in a collective experience in a given environment, as much as they maintain the mystery of it: what chemistry allows the whole to exist?
He presented his work at SOMA – Marseille in June 2021 as well as at Montevideo (Actoral festival) in October of the same year; he exhibited his work in the gardens of the Pavillon Vendôme in 2018 in Aix-en-Provence. In 2016, he co-founded the music collective Liar Bird with whom he created the radio show Liar Bird Show (199 Radio, London and Noods Radio, Bristol) and organized the 2019 edition of the festival Eufonia – Sound art & science (Acud Macht Neu, Berlin).
