Andréa Branzi

Andrea Branzi is a contemporary Italian architect and designer. He studied in his native Florence, graduating in 1967. In 1973, he moved to Milan, where he has lived and worked ever since. He was a leading figure in the Italian radical architecture movement of the 1960s-1970s. Between 1964 and 1974, Andrea Branzi was a member of the avant-garde Archizoom group, which also included architects Gilberto Corretti, Paolo Deganello and Massimo Morozzi, and designers Dario and Lucia Bartolini. Archizoom was at the origin of radical architecture, as was the Superstudio group, with whom they exhibited in Pistoia in 1966 (“Superarchitettura” exhibition), and the English Archigram group. In the 1980s, Branzi joined the Memphis Group founded by architect and consultant Ettore Sottsass. Since 1967, Andrea Branzi has worked in the fields of food design, architecture and urban planning. He was awarded the Compasso d’Oro by ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale) in 1987 and 1995. Andréa Branzi teaches at Milan Polytechnic.
