Hors les murs 19 June 2025 - 21 September 2025Address : CRAC Alsace 18 rue du Château 68130 Altkirch
Seulgi Lee presents the FLEUVE series of glass bottles created in 2022 in the exhibition Pellicule de Sauvagerie at the CRAC Alsace, on view until 21 September 2025, with Caretto & Spagna, Joshua Merchan Rodriguez, Mariana Murcia, Marie Raffn and Jessica Warboys, curated by Sandrine Desmoulin, Maria Claudia Gamboa, Sarah Menu and Richard Neyroud.
Starting from the source of the Ill, walking along its course with the artists, and rediscovering a river we cross every day without truly noticing it. Where is it? Choosing to push through the undergrowth. Between the daisies flows a silvery thread. “She’s become a teenager!” exclaimed a voice further off in the meadow, which perspires from every pore in a glistening film. The water sinks once more into the depths before re-emerging in the marl, until it resurfaces again. All the artists needed to witness these apparitions. Sometimes, the water was no longer there—it had gone elsewhere. The Ill disappears beneath a rock, above which a tree hums, like a hallucination guiding our steps toward other mirages.
How can we preserve the river’s energy? Joshua Merchan Rodriguez accelerates the erosion of objects by harnessing the power of its flow. Seulgi Lee encapsulates the current in amulet-bottles. Mariana Murcia transforms the spring water into a living drink. Marie Raffn reveals the river’s body through textile dots and knots. Caretto & Spagna perform an energetic transfusion by collecting fragments of earth.
Jessica Warboys sees Antigone emerging through the statue of Joan of Arc, hidden in the Ill during the war. Then, the memory of water overflows.
