“Art does not reproduce the visible, it makes visible. Paul Klee
Rendre visible is an exhibition with four voices, four artists who reveal nature in what it reveals… or hides. On one side, an intimate dialogue between the works of two friends, Paul Klee and Hans Reichel. On the other, videos, sculptures and installations by Anne-Charlotte Finel and Julien Discrit. The exhibition, imbued with delicacy, takes on a vertiginous dimension thanks to the presence of fossils, witnesses to a nature that disappeared millions of years ago, and which resonate with the works.
A two-beat score
The aim of this exhibition is to take you on a journey through the poetry of the living. In the spirit of a two-beat score, the first movement focuses on the close, intimate dialogue between works by Paul Klee, Hans Reichel and fossils. A second movement, in a more extended format and using very different media (video, installation, etc.), develops the relationship between two contemporary artists and the natural phenomena they seek to make visible.
The dialogue between Klee and Reichel
Friends and studio neighbors, Paul Klee and Hans Reichel have never been brought together in an exhibition, despite the obvious resonance of their works. This encounter finally comes to life in the first part of the exhibition, which is treated as an intimate study. Attracted by the metamorphoses of nature, Klee and Reichel delicately captured on paper the living world in which fish, birds and stylized plants move freely. Their universe echoes the eminently poetic fossil collections of the Musée de Lodève. The fossils on display move us with the fragility of the instant they have preserved for millions of years: a fallen leaf, a drop of rain… a furtive moment that has crossed the ages, frozen in stone.
Discrit and Finel’s vision
In Julien Discrit and Anne-Charlotte Finel’s artistic approaches, there is a porosity between the real and fictional worlds, between science and imagination. Their works seek to reveal the invisible, lurking in the shadows or buried in the strata of time and memory. For these artists, the manifestations of nature are hijacked to create a dreamlike narrative.
