As early as 1928, Virginia Woolf identified the factors preventing women from participating in literary production, proclaiming the necessity of a room of one’s own[1] and financial independence for creative expression. In the mid-1990s, as Guillaume Dustan invited readers into his bedroom,[2] recounting his sexuality as a cultural and political practice, a generation of teenagers—the « Bedroom Culture » generation, connected to the world from their rooms via the internet—initiated a kind of self-education in visual media through (online) video games, proto social networks, video channels, and other platforms for exchange. Virtual space permeated into the bedroom and its connected screen, multiplying access points to digital worlds.

From A Room of One’s Own to Bedroom Culture via dreams and cyberspace, this group exhibition explores our relationship to virtuality—where a network of subjectivities and desires are woven together—and gathers artworks and artists who navigate freely between these different worlds.
