Designer, planner, researcher, designer of objects\u2026 these were some of\u00a0the words Roger Tallon used to introduce himself. We should not read any kind\u00a0of hesitation or presumption into them, rather the movement of a mind totally\u00a0oriented towards the discovery of the right forms deduced from an analysis of\u00a0the functions peculiar to the projects which Roger Tallon was prompted to work on.\u00a0Let us mention just a handful of the best known: the Corail train, the TGV highspeed\u00a0train, the M\u00e9teor train and the Montmartre funicular. In all these works,\u00a0he managed to develop his \u201ctotal design\u201d concept, in an ongoing struggle\u00a0against the \u201cdesign-shortcomings\u201d (designo-d\u00e9ficience) of contemporary in dustry\u00a0and society.<\/p>\n
In the 1950s, Roger Tallon rubbed shoulders with the artistic avant-garde. He\u00a0worked, for example, with Yves Klein, in particular for his air architecture projects.\u00a0Friendships and joint projects of this kind gave Roger Tallon a taste for utopia,\u00a0challenges, and that determined desire to conceive an environment in its\u00a0entirety. Taking the TGV was not just travelling from Paris to Lyon. It involved,\u00a0above all, a two-hour experiment to do with dynamics, ranging from the train\u2019s\u00a0design to its form, by appropriating an open structure enabling everyone to\u00a0become a designer themselves.<\/p>\n
Dynamism was thus the predominant feature of design as imagined by Roger\u00a0Tallon. Involved, first and foremost, was giving a meaning to journeys (his major\u00a0projects were vehicles, with design as the vector), but, more than this, shifting\u00a0<\/span>boundaries, not imposing any limits on things, and seeing them in all their aspects\u00a0so as to get beyond apparent contradictions. In this quest for something\u00a0diffuse, Roger Tallon succeeded in dissolving the object and its functions by creating,\u00a0for example, the \u201cmodule\u201d concept. This was a revolution which replaced the\u00a0brutal, male idea of the finite with the values of feminity, the puzzle, and the\u00a0collective.
