At the junction between art and science, the exhibition brings together the unpublished works of 16 artists working in France who benefited, in 2020 and 2021, from the national photographic commission \u00ab\u00a0IMAGE 3.0\u00a0\u00bb initiated by the Centre national des arts plastiques in partnership with the Jeu de Paume.<\/p>\n
Based on the theme \u00ab\u00a0Assemblage\u00a0\u00bb, chosen by the City of Reims for its application to become the European Capital of Culture in 2028, the IMAGE 3.0 exhibition brings together the most recent digital artistic practices in the field of photography and image.<\/p>\n
Resolutely oriented around new image languages, this commission aimed to encourage extremely contemporary writing using innovative techniques: 3D printers, virtual reality, online platforms, computer modeling, eye sensors… It encouraged the use of all digital resources and even the exploration of new techniques in dialogue with engineers, researchers and scientists.<\/p>\n
The ensemble, shown here for the first time, draws up a very diverse panorama, although not exhaustive, of the new modes of apprehension of the image, of which it underlines the extreme multiplicity of contemporary forms: photographs on the wall, video projections, augmented videos, immersive installations, neuro-reactive works, animation generated in real time, virtual reality helmets…<\/p>\n
But beyond this observation, the exhibition also highlights, from cybernetics to artificial intelligence, from facial recognition techniques to neuroscience, a certain number of questions around the issues of the image today and our relationship, highly mechanized, to these same images. Who creates images – the human or the machine? How do we see – with the eye or with the whole body? What do we see – the real or a simulacrum? Where does one end and the other begin? The exhibition insists in particular on the questions of interactivity between the work and the visitor, this one being brought to move away more and more from the role of simple spectator to become a full and whole actor of the exhibition and\/or the work, become in return more immaterial and open.<\/p>\n
